On the heels of the Tyler Perry Exhibition, the Tubman Museum is getting ready for its 27th annual Pan African Festival to kick-off. This year, the festivities will begin on Friday evening, April 21st with the museum’s first Georgia Afrocentric Sneaker Ball. The event will begin at 7 p.m. with food and performances by Cash Juke Joint and DJ Phi playing music from across the African diaspora.
On Saturday and Sunday, April 22 and 23rd, the festival will take place at the Macon Centreplex from 11am – 9pm. The Opening Ceremonies will be held on Saturday, April 22nd, and presented by festival founders, Mrs. Chi and Dr. Christian Ezekwueche. An African libation ceremony, led by Dr. Chester Fontenot, will follow.

Sunday, April 23, is Praise Day. Gospel greats John P. Kee and the New Life Community Choir, in addition to the well-known musical group, the Canton Spirituals, will perform.

Event organizer, Arizona White, says the highlight of the festival is community. “Coming together in unity, hope, peace, and love, are the principles of the Pan African Festival. I'm also excited about welcoming the Consul General of Nigeria, Ambassador Amina Smaila, Ph. D., to this year's festival.”

An Empowerment Experience, the Children’s Village, and other family-friendly activities, such as music, dance, food, art, storytelling and food trucks, will be offered throughout the two-day festival. Attendees will have the option to sample Caribbean and Soul food cuisine that draws crowds every year.

The event will include unique goods for purchase, as well as local and regional artists and artisans who will showcase their works for purchase.
