Georgia Women of Achievement to Induct Four Notable Women into Hall of Fame

Staff Report

Wednesday, March 8th, 2023

Georgia Women of Achievement will celebrate its 31st anniversary with the annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Wesleyan College’s Pierce Chapel in Macon, Georgia. The ceremony will be followed by a luncheon in Anderson Dining Hall for family and friends of the inductees, members of the organization, and other guests. The ceremony is free and open to the public, but a ticket must be purchased for the luncheon.

Each year during Women’s History Month, the organization adds to its Hall of Fame women of the past who have made significant contributions to the State of Georgia. This year four women will be inducted: Phyllis Jenkins Barrow (1920-2009), Alice Marie Coachman (1923-2014), Luck Flanders Gambrell (1930-2015), and Dorothy Rogers Tilly (1883-1970).

According to GWA president, Dr. Penny L. Elkins, the mission of the organization is “to honor, inspire, and educate Georgians about the significant contributions of women in Georgia’s history who were educators, activists, artists, diplomatic ambassadors, and so much more. The four women who will be inducted in the March 8th ceremony are certainly examples that will inspire and empower us today.”
