STAR Student Teacher Bibb System Winners Announced
Friday, February 17th, 2023
Twenty local high school seniors were recognized and honored for their academic achievements by local business leaders, school officials, faculty and their communities of support. In addition, the winning students each selected a teacher to be recognized alongside them. On Monday, February 13, the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, PAGE, Middle Georgia State University and Cadence Bank presented the 2023 STAR Student & Teacher Achievement Recognition Banquet to celebrate the STAR Students and Teachers of all Bibb County high schools. The Bibb County system winners were also announced at the program.
STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) is a program of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE). It honors Georgia’s highest achieving high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development. The Bibb County STAR program has been sponsored by the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce for over 60 years.
To qualify as a STAR Student, high school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average. The highest scoring STAR student in Bibb County will then move on to the regional STAR competition, to be hosted on March 14. This year Bibb County will have the honor of sending three students to region due to a three-way tie. The system winners are as follows:
- Camille Fry of Academy for Classical Education, who selected Mrs. Roban Johnson as her STAR teacher.
- Peter Garud of Stratford Academy who selected Mr. Bobby Stecher as his STAR teacher.
- Sophia Tang of Stratford Academy who selected Mrs. Candace Bridges as her STAR teacher.
The Chamber is proud to continue honoring the students and educators who make our community greater, together.
