Mayor, KMBB to Announce First Community-Wide Cleanup of the Year

Friday, February 10th, 2023

Macon-Bibb County and Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful (KMBB) are teaming up once again to hold a Clean Streets Matter Community-wide Cleanup. This will be the fifth Community-Wide Cleanup since the start of the Clean Streets Matter initiative in 2021.

Leaders will announce the next date for the cleanup, how the program is expanding, how people can get involved, and other details at a news conference on Friday, February 10, 2023 at City Hall (700 Poplar Street) at 10:30 a.m. It will also be live streamed on the County’s Facebook Page.

“We are so excited to hold a Community Cleanup Day once again,” says Mayor Lester Miller. “Since we launched Clean Streets Matter and came together for (3/4) of these big days, our community has really stepped up to the plate and held their own regular cleanups throughout the year, and I am so proud of that.”

The first Community-Wide Cleanup began was held in April 2021 and since then, hundreds of people have participated in cleanups, removing tons of litter and debris from our neighborhoods. You can view pictures from previous cleanups here.

“We have definitely had an increase in local organizations, schools, and other groups volunteering to host cleanups,” says KMBB Executive Director Asha Ellen. “We are also working to prevent littering by presenting to students about the importance of keeping our community clean.”

KMBB is currently working on upcoming projects with the Bibb County Public School District and United Way’s Read United initiative that connects its mission with the district’s curriculum and literacy.

“I hope this upcoming event and the education program will help keep up this momentum and encourage others to join us that day and throughout the year,” adds Mayor Miller. “Clean Streets Matter because Macon matters.”
