Jay Jones Named Principal of Houston County High School

Jay Jones was named as the next principal of Houston County High School during the Houston County Board of Education meeting held on February 14, 2023.
 
Jones currently serves as an Assistant Principal at Houston County High. Prior to that, he taught math at Houston County High and Veterans High School, where he served as mathematics department chair. He has been an educator since 2005.
 
“I am both proud and excited to be selected by Dr. Scott and the Houston County Board of Education to be the next principal at Houston County High School,” said Jones. “I am humbled to have the opportunity to serve the teachers, staff, students, and the surrounding community of Houston County High. The potential future success of our school is boundless, and I look forward to working with all involved to ensure that Houston County High School continues to Expect Excellence…and BEAR DOWN! 
 
Jones earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in Mathematics Education from the University of Georgia, where he was a member of the UGA Redcoat Marching Band. He earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Georgia College and State University and a specialist’s degree in Teaching and Leading from Georgia Southwestern University. He will graduate with a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership in May from the University of West Georgia. 
 
He and his wife, Carlyn, have two children.
