Fire Department Promoting Nearly 50 Firefighters
Thursday, February 16th, 2023
On Wednesday, February 15, the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department will hold a ceremony to celebrate the promotion of 48 firefighters to Sergeants. The Ceremony will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Howard High School Auditorium (6400 Forsyth Rd). Media members are invited to attend, and the Promotion Ceremony will be live streamed on the Fire Department’s Facebook page.
“Our firefighters have worked hard to be the best,” Fire Chief Shane Edwards. “We are so proud of all they have accomplished this far and are looking forward to seeing them succeed while serving our community.”
This round of promotions was made possible with the move to a new schedule of shifts in January 2022. With the new shift schedule, more leadership positions became available.
A Sergeant in the Fire Department is responsible for driving & operating the Fire apparatus, maintaining and checking out all of the equipment assigned to their apparatus, and backfilling the company officers position in their absence.
