CGTC to Host Fly Summit for Area High School Students and Community Partners

Central Georgia Technical College will host 150 Houston County high school students at the CGTC Aviation Training Center for the 2nd annual “Fly Summit” in Macon tomorrow, February 10th, at the Aerospace & Training Sustainment Center at 1821 Avondale Mill Road, from 9:30am to 1:30pm.

With community partners, the Houston County Career Academy (HCCA), Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex (WR-ALC), and Houston County Development Authority, students will be introduced to aerospace career opportunities at WR-ALC.

“The Flying High with Aerospace Summit is a regional approach to help build a pipeline of dual enrollment students to become career ready in aerospace careers,” said Kim Gunn, the Executive Director of High School Initiatives. “The focus is the dual enrollment Aircraft Structural Technology program and students will get to hear from industry leaders and tour lab spaces. Juniors and seniors in central Georgia can enroll in this one-year dual enrollment program, complete a certificate for the college, and become a pathway completer for the high school.”

The ALC at Robins Air Force Base is the largest industrial complex in the state, and the largest employer in Houston County, offering jobs aircraft sheet welding, propeller mechanics, electronics, robotics, industrial systems, software engineering and computer programming.

The summit will expose students not only to the program, but the various industry partners in central Georgia that have highly skilled, in demand jobs. Students were invited to this event based on their career areas of interest and counselor recommendations.
