The Woman at The Desk Art Opening at Wesleyan College
Wednesday, January 11th, 2023
Wesleyan College will present The Woman at The Desk art exhibit opening on Thursday, January 12 from 6:30-8pm at the Frances P. & Dennie L. McCrary Gallery in the Murphey Art Building. The show features the work of Macon artist Anna Richards and her exploration of the perceptions of women office workers within the workplace and society.
Influenced by personal experience working as an administrative assistant and research on the advocacy work of the 9 to 5 Movement from the 1970s, the exhibit draws parallels on the issues still present for office workers.
Anna developed the work over the course of 5 months as part of her senior honors thesis. The work was created through the reinterpretation of materials, like office supplies and make up, in order to shift the perspective of her own personal growth while also reimagining, questioning and elevating the woman office worker.
The exhibit opens on Thursday, January 12 at and will be on display through January 20, M-F from 1-5pm on Wesleyan’s campus.
