Transporting Art: Enhancing MTA’s Bus Shelters

WHO
Macon-Bibb County Transit Authority (MTA), partnering with local artist and designer, Erin Hawkins.

WHAT
Create visually captivating art for MTA bus shelters. This grant-funded project was made possible through the continued generosity of the Knight Foundation and Peyton Anderson Foundation of Central Georgia and is administered by the Community Foundation of Central Georgia.

WHERE
Various bus shelter locations in downtown Macon.

PROJECT GOALS
To enhance downtown transit stops for current riders & to entice people to try transit. An increasingly art-filled downtown boosts tourism and economic development, makes Macon more attractive to visitors and industrial prospects, and a progressive, vibrant downtown improves the quality of life in Macon for everyone.

THE PROJECT
Step 1: This “Open Call for Artists.” Local Georgia artists are invited to submit a portfolio.
Step 2: Semi-finalists will be chosen.
Step 3: Each semi-finalist will be paid $250 for his/her conceptual design.
Step 4: Winners will be selected from among the semi-finalists & be paid $750 each.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
1. Artists must be current Georgia resident.
2. Statement of interest.
3. Portfolio showcasing examples of previous work completed by the submitting artist.
4. Resume, listing prior experience in the visual arts and demonstrating the ability to meet all deadlines
of this high-profile project.
5. An application is not complete and won’t be considered without all four (4) elements listed above.
