Macon Habitat Light More Homes 2022 Kicks-off
Thursday, November 17th, 2022
The 2022 Light More Homes Christmas Celebration to benefit Macon Area Habitat for Humanity kicks off on Thursday, November 17 at 5:30pm in Mercer Village. The display is hosted by Mercer University, and made possible by our generous presenting sponsor, Live@Lofts. “Macon Habitat is excited to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Light More Homes this Christmas season. We will also celebrate our 3rd year at Mercer and are so grateful for their support of Light More Homes and the mission of Habitat in our community,” said Chuck Hammock, AH&P partner, light display designer, and Macon Area Habitat for Humanity board member. The display will consist of a canopy of lights, arches and snow in Mercer Village, and Candy Cane Lane that stretches around Stadium Drive. Local middle, high-school and college students set the lights to music through the Chick-fil-A Programming Contest.
Macon Habitat invites representatives of the media to the Light More Homes kick-off event on Thursday, November 17 at 5:30pm in Mercer Village. We will announce the winners of the Chick-fil-A Programming Contest and count down to the official start of Light More Homes 2022 with volunteers, Habitat homeowners, and event sponsors. The kick-off event will have activities for the whole family and festive drinks at participating restaurants in Mercer village.
Macon Area Habitat for Humanity’s Light More Homes annual Christmas light display brings joy to thousands each year and helps us literally "light more homes" by raising funds to build homeownership opportunities in Macon-Bibb and Jones Counties. MAHFH is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, an ecumenical Christian housing ministry devoted to ending substandard housing across the globe. Houses are built using volunteer labor and in-kind donations and then sold to partner families at no-interest and no-profit. MAHFH was founded in Macon, Georgia in 1986, and has served almost 130 families through homeownership programs.
2022 Light More Homes sponsors include: Live@Lofts, Mercer University, Chick-fil-A, OrthoGeorgia, Roland Abbott and DeZoort Insurance, LLC, Mike Hostilo Law Firm, Allstate Electrical Contractors, Margarita’s in Mercer Village, Andrews Hammock and Powell Inc., Spivey Pope Green LLC, IFT, Sheridan Construction, The Macon Civic Club’s presentation of It’s Your Thing, Jag’s Pizzeria and Pub, BTBB Inc., Raffield Tire Master, MidSouth Community Federal Credit Union, Tidwell and Hillburn Insurance, Edward Jones, United Rentals, and Wintergreen Corporation.
Light More Homes would not be possible each year without the help of over 300 volunteers. 2022 volunteers included the Mercer women’s and men’s lacrosse team, Mercer Kinesiology Club, students from the Mercer Computer Science program, Len Register, Conn Fountain, James Menke and Innovative Fiber Technology Company, volunteers from Edward Jones, United Rentals, volunteers from SimpleNexus LLC, Andrews, Hammock and Powell Inc., and many individual Mercer students who wanted to lend a hand this year.
