AT&T Boosts Network Speeds for Montgomery County

What’s the news? AT&T customers and FirstNet® subscribers in Mount Vernon got a big boost in wireless connectivity. We’ve added a new cell tower to enhance the area’s coverage and help give residents and first responders faster, more reliable wireless service. Our investment is helping improve internet access and ensuring customers get the most out of their mobile devices.

Among other benefits, the new cell tower in Mount Vernon provides better coverage and speeds in the northern parts of Mount Vernon, including businesses like the Oconee Farmer’s Market, and for several school campuses including Brewton-Parker College, Montgomery County High, Montgomery County Elementary, and Mount Vernon Christian Academy.

Why is this important? We know how important it is for our customers to stay connected. That’s why we’re also boosting network reliability and capacity as we expand our network. This helps Georgia residents get the best possible experience over the AT&T network wherever they live, work and play. And it’s giving first responders on FirstNet – America’s public safety network – access to always-on, 24-hours-a-day priority and preemption across voice and data.

These enhancements also bring Band 14 spectrum to the area. Band 14 is nationwide, high-quality spectrum set aside by the government specifically for FirstNet. We look at Band 14 as public safety’s VIP lane. In an emergency, this band – or lane – can be cleared and locked just for FirstNet subscribers. When not in use by FirstNet subscribers, AT&T customers can enjoy Band 14’s added coverage and capacity.

Our commitment to Georgia Communities: From 2019 to 2021, we invested nearly $5 billion in our wireless and wired networks in Georgia. These investments boost reliability, coverage, speed and overall performance for residents and their businesses.

What people are saying:

Gary Sanchez

South Georgia Regional Director of External Affairs, AT&T

“We know how important it is for our customers to stay connected. With this new cell tower, they’ll be able to experience better network connectivity to support public safety, work remotely and access virtual learning. At AT&T, we have a responsibility unlike any other network provider, and couldn’t be more pleased to support the public safety mission by bringing Mount Vernon’s first responders – and residents – greater access to the connectivity they need.”

Michele Johnson

President, Greater Vidalia Chamber of Commerce

“In today’s world, connectivity is increasingly important in how we learn, work and keep our communities safe. This new infrastructure will provide increased connectivity that will help close the digital divide for our residents and give our first responders the communications network they need to address incidents effectively and efficiently.”
