Macon Sees Drop in September Unemployment Rate

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Macon recorded an unemployment rate of 3 percent in September, down five-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.7 percent.
"We continue to see a steady rise in job creation and demand by employers to fill open positions,” said Commissioner Mark Butler. “This strong growth has led to Georgia having the fewest unemployed residents in over 20 years."
The labor force decreased in Macon by 651 and ended the month with 102,408. That number went down 280 when compared to September of 2021.
Macon finished the month with 99,331 employed residents. That number decreased by 112 over the month and increased by 424 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Macon ended September with 103,600 jobs. That number went down 1,200 from August to September and increased by 2,600 when compared to this time last year.
The number of unemployment claims went up by 3 percent in Macon in September. When compared to last September, claims were up by about 45 percent.
