Macon-Bibb County Welcomes New Cohort of Student Leaders
Monday, October 10th, 2022
Dozens of students are ready for a hands-on experience learning about their local government through our student youth commission program. Orientation for the Georgia Civic Awareness Program for Students (GCAPS) will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, at City Hall in Commission Chambers (700 Poplar Street). The 36 high-school students and their parents will what the year holds for them and hear from county department heads. Media members are invited to come meet the students and interview them and program leaders.
“I’m very excited for this robust group of young people, and we’re ready to give these students a thorough and fun education in how their city operates.” says Dr. Henry Ficklin, GCAPS Coordinator and Executive Director of Community Affairs. “It’s important for our youngest community members to be engaged in their government now, as it can help inform and interest them as they move past school into their career paths.”
This group of students represents nearly every high school in Bibb County, and even includes homeschool students. If you’d like to learn more about the program, and follow their adventures, visit the GCAPS Facebook page here.
