Macon Sees Rise in August Unemployment Rate

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Macon recorded an unemployment rate of 3.5 percent in August, up two-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 4.3 percent.
“As we look toward the fall, we are committed to supporting the workforce as employers search for seasonal, full-time, and part-time employees to fill vacancies in preparation for the holiday employment season,” said Commissioner Mark Butler.
The labor force decreased in Macon by 538 and ended the month with 103,231. That number rose 1,359 when compared to August of 2021.
Macon finished the month with 99,618 employed residents. That number decreased by 706 over the month and increased by 2,155 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Macon ended August with 105,000 jobs, an all-time high. That number went up 500 from July to August and increased by 4,300 when compared to this time last year.
The number of unemployment claims went down by 8 percent in Macon in August. When compared to last August, claims were down by about 28 percent.
Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 2,678 active job postings in Macon for August.
