TCPS Goes Global Partnering with Mercer University Learning Initiative
Friday, August 26th, 2022
This week, Twiggs County Public Schools (TCPS) is a part of a global initiative with Mercer University as students are starting a Health Workshop with Mercer, other counties, Andrew College, and teachers in Kenya, Africa.
The district is introducing the “Anatomy for Your Health Workshop” at Twiggs County High School (TCHS). This is the very first time TCHS will participate in a global learning event. The initiative includes working with Washington County, Andrew College, and teachers in Kenya.
Mercer University School of Medicine professors and medical students are leading this initiative to educate school students on the basic anatomy and physiology of the human heart, lungs, liver, and their related disease processes.
This workshop will improve high school students' knowledge of human anatomy and improve healthy lifestyle choices in rural communities. Mercer’s goal is to inspire rural and underserved students to pursue careers in healthcare professions. Students in this workshop will interact with other students from Georgia and teachers in Kenya, virtually, as they learn about available healthcare professions.
The district welcomes interviews with staff and Superintendent Dr. Mack Bullard regarding this impactful, global initiative. To coordinate a visit to highlight Twigg County’s global involvement in education, contact Shannon L. Dotsikas at 478-945-3127 or [email protected].
