Houston County School District Names Teacher of the Year

Mrs. Bridgett Hunt of Thomson Middle School has been named the 2022-2023 Houston County Teacher of the Year. The announcement was made at the District’s Opening Session held on July 25. Mrs. Hunt received over $14,500 in cash and prizes donated by organizations throughout Houston County.

Four finalists were also announced as follows:
Cheralyn Keily, Bonaire Middle School
Whitney Dady, Perry Middle School
LaChandra Cayton, Parkwood Elementary School
Jamie Stewart, Perry High School

Teachers of the Year from each school as well as six Employees of the Year also were recognized at Opening Session. Click here for a full list of honorees.

Mrs. Hunt believes that when teachers nurture a sense of hope, they optimize the potential for student success. She said, “I truly have an outpouring of love and concern for my students. What keeps me inspired is making sure that my students know that I love and care for them. I am their biggest advocate.”

During Opening Session, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mark Scott thanked all teachers and administrators for their dedication and commitment to serving our students. Board Chairman Fred Wilson was also recognized for his 28 years of service to the Houston County Board of Education, where he has served as Chairman since 2015. The program featured Kelsey Hollis, a Houston County High School graduate and reigning Miss Georgia, who performed an inspiring song.

Premier Sponsors for this year’s Opening Session included Flint Energies, H.E.A. Federal Credit Union, Houston Healthcare, Parrish Construction, The Roderick Group, Totem Solutions, and Yancey Bus Sales & Service. Southside Baptist Church also provided a premier-level, in-kind sponsorship for the use of their facility.

Cash awards were presented to the Top 5 Teachers of the Year from H.E.A. Federal Credit Union, Robins Regional Chamber, Sonny’s BBQ, and Hughes Honda. 66 local businesses and community organization donated gifts for the Teachers and Employees of the Year.
