Mercer University Center for Executive Education to Launch Conflict Resolution Certificate Program This Fall

Mercer University’s Center for Executive Education will launch a virtual Conflict Resolution Certificate program this fall to cultivate the skills necessary to build better working and professional relationships, manage workplace differences and thrive in today’s dynamic business environment.
 
“Conflict is a part of our everyday life. We can’t escape it, but we can learn how to manage it better at work and at home,” said Jeff Wolfe, director of the Center for Executive Education. “Our new Conflict Resolution Certificate program can be applied to all situations, allowing participants to address conflict sooner before it gets too far out of hand.”
 
The certificate program will take place over 12 virtual sessions covering six program modules on consecutive Mondays and Thursdays, 7-8 p.m., beginning Sept. 26 and 29. Subsequent sessions will take place on Oct. 3 and 6, Oct. 10 and 13, Oct. 17 and 20, Oct. 24 and 27, as well as Oct. 31 and Nov. 3.
 
Registration is available now at a cost of $750 per person for the program or $175 per person for one module/two sessions. Special pricing is available for Mercer faculty, staff and students.
 
The program will be led by Terrie R. McCants, who created undergraduate and graduate certificates in conflict resolution and co-created the minor in conflict analysis and trauma studies at Kansas State University.
 
In addition to teaching, McCants served as mediation coordinator for Kansas State University and the program director for Riley/Geary Counties Domestic Mediation Services. She also served as president of the Board of Directors for Heartland Mediators’ Association and served two terms on the Kansas State Supreme Court’s Advisory Council on Dispute Resolution.
 
After retiring from Kansas State University in 2018, she accepted the position of executive director for the President’s Office at the American University of Afghanistan in Kabul. In that role she provided a broad range of guidance and policy advice to department management and senior leadership regarding aspects of governance, corporate communications and support in ensuring the University’s adherence to policies, procedures, applicable laws, rules and regulations.
 
Upon returning home to Manhattan, Kansas, in 2020, she resumed offering mediation services through a local therapy firm, has continued her work with AUAF as executive administrator of the Board of Trustees and began teaching again as an adjunct in conflict resolution. She holds a master’s degree in conflict analysis and resolution and is a state-approved mediator.
