Veterans Elementary Achieves Leader In Me Lighthouse Status
Wednesday, May 25th, 2022
Veterans Elementary School has earned Lighthouse School status from Leader in Me. This designation recognizes the school for implementation of Leader in Me principles, including the “7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” in every phase of school life.
“The students, staff, and community stakeholders at Veterans Elementary School truly embrace Stephen Covey's philosophy that every child has genius and that everyone who aspires to lead can be a leader,” said Principal Dr. Arrika Tunstell. “Persevering through the pandemic, we were determined to provide a culture and climate that fosters leadership and academic success.
Veterans will continue our journey by helping our students ‘find their voice’ to prepare them to lead in a 21st century global society.” Lighthouse certification involves analysis of evidence provided by the school, as well as a site visit from the Leader in Me team.
Veterans becomes the seventh District school to receive Lighthouse status, following Bernd Elementary School, Burdell-Hunt Magnet School, Carter Elementary School, Miller Fine Arts Magnet Middle School, Springdale Elementary School and Vineville Academy of the Arts.
“Seven years ago, I learned Bibb County’s vision was for each student to demonstrate strength of character and to be college or career ready. I wasn’t sure how ‘strength of character’ would happen, but the Leader in Me program made it so,” said Superintendent Dr. Curtis L. Jones Jr. “Seven years ago, we began our Leader in Me journey, and we now have seven Lighthouse schools. Congratulations to the latest, Veterans Elementary School.”
