Macon Little Theatre (MLT) opens the stage and film classic, Anne of Green Gables this weekend. Based on the novel by L. M. Montgomery, Green Gables is the home of lovable Matthew Cuthbert and his stern sister, Marilla. They agree to adopt a boy to help with the farm work. Imagine their consternation when Anne Shirley, a girl in her teens, is sent by the orphanage by mistake. Anne touches Matthew's heart with her vivid imagination and her charitable viewpoint, but it takes time to reach the tender heart beneath Marilla's hard exterior. Famed American writer, Wilbur Braun, under the pseudonym Alice Chadwicke, adapted the novel Anne of Green Gables into a three-act play in 1937. This is a comedy for the whole family.

The featured show opened on Friday, May 20, and runs through Sunday, May 29.

"With Anne of Green Gables, Macon Little Theatre is excited to bring the classic novel to stage.  This heartwarming tale of an orphan girl's impact on the Cuthbert has stood the test of time and been passed down to young readers and viewers for year.  With a mix of struggles, joy, sadness, and growth, Anne of Green Gables is sure to send you on an emotional adventure through the years of her life," said MLT artistic director JP Haynie.

"Anne of Green Gables is loyally based on the classic novel, and follows the twisted path of young Anne as she grows up in her new foster home all the while changing so many lives along the way," said Haynie.
