Macon Volunteer Clinic Expands Eligibility to Twiggs County Residents
Friday, April 8th, 2022
Macon Volunteer Clinic (MVC) is pleased to announce it is now offering its services to eligible residents of Twiggs County. This is in addition to eligible residents of Macon-Bibb County, who MVC has served for 19 years.
Twiggs County, with a population of some 8,000, has an almost 15% uninsured rate among its working adults ages 19-64. According to the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute, Twiggs County’s health rankings are 159th out of Georgia’s 159 counties.
“Twiggs County neighbors already work and shop in Macon-Bibb County. And they utilize our healthcare systems. It just made sense to our Board of Directors that we open our hearts and doors as a medical home for those who qualify,” states MVC Executive Director Nancy White.
Judy Sherling, Executive Director for the Development Authority of Jeffersonville and Twiggs County, states, “A healthy community is one where all citizens, regardless of income, have access to quality healthcare. As we work to grow Twiggs County, having the Macon Volunteer Clinic offer services to our uninsured residents helps us assure a better quality of life and a stronger, healthier workforce for companies who locate here.”
MVC’s services are at no cost to Macon-Bibb and Twiggs County residents who qualify. Eligibility criteria are: (1) ages 18-64; (2) earn no more than 200% of the Federal Poverty Level; (3) be a resident of either county; (4) have no medical insurance, and (5) be actively employed in some capacity. Patients are screened for eligibility before seeing a physician. Eligibility screening appointments are available weekly, and can be made by calling (478) 755-1110 x. 121.
A medical home to eligible patients, Macon Volunteer Clinic offers free primary care, dental care, non-narcotic prescription medication assistance, cancer screenings, gynecology, dermatology, orthopedics, neurology, laboratory analyses, x-rays and other diagnostic services and mental health counseling.
Located on the corner of Ingleside and Rogers, Macon Volunteer Clinic was established in 2003 and is powered by philanthropy and volunteer providers. Its purpose is to foster a community where all working adults, regardless of insurance or ability to pay, can lead healthy and productive lives.
