Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful Supporting Three Community Cleanups

Staff Report

Monday, April 25th, 2022

On Friday, April 22 Springdale Elementary students will take part in an afternoon cleanup around their school. About 30-40 students will clean up streets next to Northside Swim Club (5097 Northside Drive) during recess between 1:15-2:15 p.m. This will be the first year Springdale students have taken part in the Clean Streets Matter initiative.

“We teach our students that we are all leaders, and this opportunity is a practical way to show them they can lead the way in bettering our neighborhood and community,” says Springdale Teacher Brenda Moseley. “We also know the importance of teaching our students their responsibility for caring for our environment. We hope that others in our community will see our students contributing in this way and will be inspired to do their part as well.”

This is not the only cleanup happening this weekend either. More people in our community are stepping up to clean our streets and help make a difference.

“The outpour of community support towards the Clean Streets Matter initiative and Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful is just a testament of the love and commitment the citizens of Macon-Bibb have for this community,” says Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful Executive Director Asha Ellen.

On Saturday, April 23, C-QUL and Mercer University are partnering to clean up Napier Heights. The cleanup will start at 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of Montpelier Avenue and Duncan Avenue until 10:30 a.m.

“C-QUL has been a part of about 25 cleanups so far and we want to continue,” says C-QUL Founder Andrea Cooke. “It’s important to us because there is a direct connection between what we experience and see in our communities and its impact on young people’s lives. We have to focus on what seems to be small, to make direct impact on our community in the long-run.”

There are about 20 volunteers signed up, but they are always looking for more volunteers. If you would like to volunteer, contact Andrea Cooke at (478) 390-4979.

Also on Saturday, Mount Vernon Baptist Church (737 Pansy Avenue) will hold a cleanup starting at noon as part of the observance of their church's anniversary.
