Bike Walk Macon Announces 2022 Spring Biking and Walking Events

Tuesday, March 8th, 2022

Bike Walk Macon, a nonprofit working to create a more bikeable, walkable Macon-Bibb County, is excited to announce the return of Macon Bike Party and Walk-About-Wednesday and a new series of education classes this spring.

Macon Bike Party returns on Thursday, March 10 at 6:00 PM, with a ride through Historic Greenwood Bottom and the Industrial District of Downtown Macon. Macon Bike Party is a free, slow-paced community bicycle ride for people of all ages and skill levels that rides on the second Thursday of each month (March to June and September to December). This ride will leave from the Bike Walk Macon office at 830 High Street, Macon, GA 31201. More details are available at bikewalkmacon.com/bikeparty.

Bike Walk Macon is also bringing back Walk-About-Wednesday on Wednesday, March 16, at 5:30 PM. This one-hour medium-pace fitness walk meets on the third Wednesday of each month (March to June and September to December). The walk will start at the Bike Walk Macon office at 830 High Street, Macon, GA 31201. Participants should be able to walk 3 miles non-stop, and wear appropriate fitness gear and bring water.

Bike Walk Macon is also thrilled to announce new bicycle educational bike classes for 2022 thanks to funding from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. This series will kick off with a “True Beginner” bicycle class at Luther Williams Field on Sunday, March 13 at 9:00 AM. Through this three-part course, students will learn the basics of bicycling and bicycle mechanics while increasing their skill level through advancing classes. Participants will graduate from each class with an increased knowledge of bicycling safety and skills. All classes are FREE. Students may sign up for the three-class course or individual classes at www.bikewalkmacon.com/events.

“We’re looking forward to bringing back some of our favorite rides and walks this month, while also introducing new classes. As Macon becomes a more bike and pedestrian friendly city, we believe it’s an important time for us to help provide educational events and opportunities across our city that help Maconites feel more confident and safe on our streets,” said Rachel Umana, executive director of Bike Walk Macon.
