150th Blighter Structure to be Demolished Wednesday in Macon-Bibb

Tuesday, March 29th, 2022

On Wednesday, March 30, crews will remove the 50th blighted structure or unit during 2022 and the 150th total in our #BlightFight. The house is located 849 Lilly Avenue  and will be demolished beginning at 3:00 p.m. Present at the demolition will be Mayor Lester Miller, departments, and more.

The demolition can be watched live at www.facebook.com/maconbibbcounty.

“Reaching 150 is a milestone, but we're not done yet. Since the beginning for the Blight Fight, we said it was not a one and done project,” says Mayor Lester Miller. “As we near the one-year mark of this effort, I want to thank all our crews, departments, and partners. They have made this a priority, continuously working hard to make us a safer Macon-Bibb.”

The Blight Fight was launched on April 14, 2021 with a starting goal to remove 30 blighted houses in 30 days. Crews completed that plan 9 days early and continued to work on other uninhabitable and dilapidated structures, which ranged from houses to commercial buildings. Each structure in this process was identified by the Code Enforcement Department as either burned or classified as Vacant/Abandoned/Dilapidated.
