New Custom Fire Truck Dedication Ceremony

Monday, February 7th, 2022

The Macon-Bibb County Fire Department is excited to announce and dedicate the newest addition to its fleet a fully customized 2021 Sutphen Pumper. A Dedication Ceremony will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 7, 2022, at Fire Station #2 (495 Monroe Street).

“A new tradition our Department and firefighters wanted to start is to celebrate the arrival of our new engines and equipment,” says Fire Chief Shane Edwards. “This will be our fire engine dedication and a good way to show people how the SPLOST is helping us better protect them.”

This vehicle was bought using voter-approved SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) funds and will replace a similar but outdated truck built in 1996. The new apparatus comes to Macon-Bibb after a year of custom building and inspections at Sutphen Manufacturing.

The fire team ordered what they needed, including size requirements, to make sure it would fit in the bay at the historic Fire Station #2. At the end of the build process, Fire Chief Edwards, County Manager Dr. Keith Moffett, and Training Chief Reco Stephens traveled to the manufacturing plant to inspect it and make sure everything was good to go.

Mayor Lester Miller, Fire Chief Edwards, SPLOST Advisory Chair Theron Ussery, and others are slated to speak at the dedication event. Media members are invited to the Ceremony. The public is welcome to watch the ceremony live on the Macon-Bibb Fire Department Facebook page.
