Macon Rescue Mission, Macon Volunteer Clinic, Macon Beets Launch Whole Food Plant Based Demonstration Project
Wednesday, February 16th, 2022
Macon Rescue Mission and Macon Volunteer Clinic are partnering with Macon Beets, a local volunteer group of Whole Food Plant Based Eaters, for a 10-day immersion project testing the experience and health benefits of a plant-based diet. Macon Beets is a local independent organization of the nonprofit PlantPure Communities based in North Carolina.
The project kicks off at a Monday, February 21, 5 pm media event at the Macon Rescue Mission. Around 40 individuals will participate in the 10-day immersion project. They include 30 Macon Rescue Mission residents volunteering for the experience, 4 Rescue Mission staff members, and members from the local media and county commission. Macon Volunteer Clinic, which serves as a medical home for Macon Rescue Mission residents, will provide the medical supervision for Rescue Mission residents and oversee the before and after biometric measures. The immersion concludes Friday, March 4.
The 10-day immersion includes testing for baseline cholesterol levels, online education, plant-based meals, ongoing support for participants throughout the project, follow-up biometric testing, and sustained follow-up for participants desiring to continue a plant-based eating lifestyle.
Nelson Campbell, founder of PlantPure Communities and son of world-renowned nutritional researcher Dr. T. Colin Campbell, states, “Many of the participants in prior 10-day immersions have seen reductions in their total cholesterol of 15-25% and have also reversed one or more chronic conditions and significantly reduced or eliminated their medications.”
Macon Rescue Mission since 1952 has provided residential shelter and meals to those in need in the Middle Georgia Community. Macon Volunteer Clinic since 2003 has provided a free medical home to working, uninsured adults who earn below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. Macon Beets is an affiliation of whole food plant based eaters who are reaching out to the healthcare community.
