HBCU & Civil Rights Summer Tours Offered For Local Teens by The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia

Tacala Summer College Tours will offer rising high school students (9th - 12th Grade) the opportunity to tour Historically Black Colleges & Universities and Civil Rights Attractions. Two different tours are available to choose from, both tours are exclusive week-long (6 days) road-trips across two states. The trip is open to all rising high school students in Central Georgia. Participants will also venture outside of college campuses during the trip to participate in local community service projects and cultural educational tours.
“These tours are multi-purpose,” said Teen Leadership Development Director, Katrina Williams. “They allow teens to explore hands-on experiences, serve in the community, and tour colleges to get a glimpse of day-to-day college experiences while gaining resources to prepare them for post-secondary education ”
The total cost per student is $250.00 or $200.00 if you sign up and pay in full by February 28th, 2022, to take advantage of our Early Bird Special discount. Tour details are as follows:

Tour A: June 13th, 2022 - June 18th, 2022 Students will travel through Georgia and Alabama to tour 7 college campuses and 8 civil rights attractions. College campus tours include Alabama A&M University, Clark Atlanta University, Tuskegee University, Morehouse College, Alabama State University, Spelman College, and Miles College. Civil rights attractions include George Washington Carver Museum, Rosa Parks Museum, Voting Rights Museum, Edmund Pettus Bridge, Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site, Birmingham Civil Rights Institution, and 16th Street Baptist Church & MLK Center. The tour also includes a grand finale trip to Six Flags.

Tour B: Offered June 27th, 2022 - July 1st, 2022 Students will travel through Georgia and Florida to tour 9 college campuses, museums, and a grand finale attraction. College campus tours include Savannah State University, Fort Valley State University, University of Florida, Edward Waters College, Florida A&M University, Bethune-Cookman University, Albany State University, Florida State University, and University of Central Florida. Additionally, students will visit Albany Civil Rights Institute and Meek-Eaton Black Archives Research Center & Museum. The tour will conclude with a grand finale visit to Universal Volcano Bay.
The HBCU College & Summer Tours will be a memorable experience that will provide teens with an opportunity to enhance their leadership skills, civic engagement, and personal development.
