Cox Employees Award Grant to Mentor’s Project

Wednesday, January 12th, 2022

Cox employees in Middle Georgia have awarded a $5,000 grant to The Mentor’s Project of Bibb County, through a Cox Charities Community Investment Grant. The Mentor’s Project provides role models to eligible Bibb County School District Middle and High School students who need additional support outside their family, and to assist them in reaching their full academic, social and personal potential.

“Every year we receive so many great grant applications from worthy nonprofits in Middle Georgia,” said Erin Monroe Wesley, Cox Southeast Region Vice President of Government and Public Affairs. “It’s within our Cox DNA to give back to the communities we serve. This is just another example of how our employees strive to elevate the transformative work of local nonprofit organizations making a difference in our community.”

Cox Charities is an internal giving campaign where employees can set aside a portion of their paychecks to fund the local grants.  Money donated by employees in the Middle Georgia Market stays in the Middle Georgia Market. The Community Investment grants provide up to $5,000 to local nonprofits through a competitive application process. A committee of Cox employees reviews the applications and votes on grant recipients.

Cox Charities was created to strengthen Cox markets through the support of programs that positively impact communities in the areas of education, technology, social issues, conservation and the arts. Cox Charities does not replace, but rather increases Cox’s philanthropic giving in the community.  In 2021, Cox gave over a half million dollars in cash and in-kind services to nonprofits in the Middle Georgia Market.

In addition to the Community Investment grants, Cox Charities also awards the Innovation in Education grants during the spring months.  These grants are for classroom programs and curriculum that encourage and promote students’ ingenuity and imagination. That grant application process will begin in March, 2022. For more information about Cox Charities, visitwww.CoxCharitiesSER.org.
