Piedmont Macon and Piedmont Macon North will ‘go pink’ throughout the month of October as we observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Breast Cancer Awareness Month is designed to highlight the importance of breast cancer prevention and early detection, honor breast cancer survivors, and remember those whose lives ended too soon because of the disease.  Now is as important as ever for women to come in for mammograms. Physicians report a near 20% drop in mammogram screenings likely due to fears surrounding COVID-19 and doctors fear that some early detection opportunities may be missed. 

“To know that women may be skipping this very simple screening worries me. Mammograms are important because they are the best screening tools we have for early detection,” said Dr. Ashley Ray, a fellowship-trained breast surgeon with Piedmont Macon. “The earlier we can detect breast cancer, the better the outcome will be for our patients. Plus, we have every measure in place to make sure mammograms are a safe environment for our patients.”  

Dr. Ray says that most mammograms have normal findings and for abnormal mammograms that require follow up, often the results are non-cancerous. Dr. Ray added, “For women diagnosed with breast cancer, we are with them every step of the way to help navigate the process from start to finish.” 

All month long, both hospitals will offer special cash-pricing on screening mammograms with no physician referral needed. Piedmont Macon will also offer Saturday mammogram appointments to make scheduling easier for women with difficult weekday work schedules.

Throughout the month of October, we will offer “Peace of Mind for $59.”  If not covered completely by insurance, screening mammograms will be offered for a cash price of $59. No physician referral is needed. This does not include the radiologist’s fees, however radiology fees will also be offered at a reduced rate.
