Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Georgia Announces Thriller Night Run 5K

Wednesday, September 8th, 2021

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia (BGCCG) will host a 5K run on Saturday, October 30 at 7:00 pm. Beginning at Luther Williams Field, Willie Smokey Glover Dr, Macon, GA 31201, in Carolyn Crayton (Central City) Park, check-in and registration opens at 6:00 pm. The 5K will cover a portion of the Industrial District and a small part of downtown Macon. Finish line will be just before Cherry Street Plaza, where Hayiya Dance Theatre will host the Thriller Parade. Their annual Thriller Parade features a performance of the Thriller dance and will include kids from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia. Parking for the run and parade is available at Central City Park. Awards given to runners and best M/F costumes, judged by a panel of Club Kids pre-race.

Several community leaders are running the 5K as ambassadors. Those who do not wish to run can still support by contributing to an ambassadors’ campaign. Run ambassadors and BGCCG supporters collaborated to create a Thriller dance video to help announce and promote the 5K.

“This is an amazing cause,” said run ambassador DeMarcus Beckham. “I was a member of my local Boys & Girls Club as a kid, and I saw how it impacted not only myself but my community. The programs allow the kids to build skills that last past the walls of the clubs. I still use those skills in my personal and professional life. These are founding skills that everybody needs to build a life and community. When I went there, I felt valuable. This run is a great opportunity to show the youth in our community that we want to invest in their future. The run itself is a way the children can be involved; it’s about running the race of life. Starting and not giving up until you reach the finish line.”

Online registration for the run is available. $20 EARLY BIRD registration for all entries received by September 17, $25 advance registration for all entries received September 18-October 20, and $30 registration on race day with limited t-shirt availability. Virtual participation is an option.
