Macon Pops Heads Into 9th Season with Rock & Soul Music
Monday, August 9th, 2021
Rock and Soul music has dominated music charts for decades and Macon Pops has chosen a particular yet exciting focus. Heading into their 9th season, the well-known music group’s first concert will feature “Women of Rock and Soul.” The event will be held on Friday, Aug. 20, 2021 at 7:30 p.m at Hawkins Arena.
The celebration is an exciting one for both Matt Catingub and Steve Moretti, the duo who created Macon Pops. “I’m very much looking forward to celebrating some of the most incredible female music icons,” says Moretti. “Musically, this will be a spectacular show with something for everyone.”
The music lineup will include classics from rock and roll female royalties: Joan Jett, Tina Turner, Carly Simon and others. Famed soul artists Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight and other similar artists’ music hits will be on display.
“This brand new show, written especially for Macon Pops celebrating women of popular music, is something I have been looking forward to creating and presenting for many years,” says Catingub, who arranges and creates all the musical arrangements for Macon Pops performances.
The concert will feature vocalists Anita Hall, Ansley Stewart and Brenda Nicole Moorer. Some of Hall's past credits include performances with the Detroit, Hartford, New Hampshire, Omaha, Grand Rapids, Macon, St. Louis, Las Vegas, Long Beach, Glendale, Kitchner Waterloo and Hawaii Pops Symphonies. She has had the privilege of performing for Microsoft's Bill Gates, PGA golfer Phil Mickelson, E-Bay's VP Mary Lou Song, and many others.
Originally from Athens, Georgia, Ansley Stewart’s vibrant, Soul-Pop style has become a fixture in the local Atlanta music scene. Her songwriting debut came quickly after she launched a successfully funded Kickstarter campaign, completing her 6-song EP, “Light,” that was released in March of 2017.
