On the Table Conversation to Action Grant Project Completed and on Display at Macon Arts Alliance

Monday, July 19th, 2021

The project, “Images of Home During a Global Pandemic” has been possible through an On the Table Conversation to Action Grant funded by John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and Community Foundation of Central Georgia.

This project aims to create a lasting collection of images to remind us how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted families in our community. These images of “home” highlight Habitat for Humanity partner families from two of the affiliate’s focus neighborhoods, Lynmore Estates and Pleasant Hill. Photos are displayed in the windows of the Macon Arts Alliance, each taken by DSTO Moore. The photographs capture the daily life of the families as they worked, learned, and lived during the height of the pandemic. The kiosk inside Macon Arts Alliance features the work of students enrolled at St. Peter Claver created during the pandemic capturing the experience through their eyes. These students represent many neighborhoods in Macon-Bibb County and a shared experience of education during COVID-19. This project seeks to capture the images of pandemic life from the professional and youth perspective.

Members of the community are invited to an open house at Macon Arts Alliance on July 15th from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The photos and artwork will be on display through the end of the month.

The Images of Home photographs have been included in a book titled “Letters from Home,” a component of Macon Area Habitat for Humanity’s 35th Anniversary Celebration. “Letters from Home” features the words of homeowners, donors, volunteers, and other members of the Habitat community, congratulating the affiliate on 35 years of building homes, communities, and hope in Macon-Bibb and Jones counties. The book is available for viewing at Macon Arts Alliance and for sale for a donation to Macon Area Habitat.
