GEMA Donates Extra Supplies, PPE to Macon Volunteer Clinic

Staff Report

Thursday, July 1st, 2021

The Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) is donating to the Macon Volunteer Clinic extra and unused supplies from the mass vaccination that was at the Macon State Farmers Market. The Volunteer Clinic will be getting band-Aids, cotton balls, alcohol pads, face masks and shields, gowns, office supplies, and more.

There is a press conference at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at the GEMA warehouse site (former Butcher Boys Meats building) at the Macon State Farmers Market (2055 Eisenhower Parkway).

“We have a lot of unused personal protection equipment and medical and office supplies that could be put to use in the community,” says GEMA Field Training Coordinator Kerry Futch. “You can’t just leave these things in a warehouse forever, so we wanted to give them to a non-profit like the Macon Volunteer Clinic.”

“We had about 5,000 patient visits last year, and we expect that number to be even higher this year. We run on donations, so this allows us to stay focused on our mission,” says Nancy White, Executive Director of the Macon Volunteer Clinic. “It also speaks to the ethos of our community. We’re in our 19th year, and are 100% philanthropy funded. Our community partners keep us passionate!”

Macon-Bibb County will live stream the press conference on our Facebook page, and media will be able to do interviews on site.
