Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia announced plans today to implement an educational software platform at all six of its club facilities throughout Middle Georgia, to help club member students with learning loss recovery bought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia will purchase a software license and install the IXL award-winning platform, which offers a personalized learning experience used by more than 11 million students worldwide. IXL's curriculum is built on 8,500+ skills that are finely scaffolded to help target specific areas of student need and uses insights from student work in the curriculum and the Real-Time Diagnostic to generate personalized guidance for each learner.

In addition to implementing the use of the IXL educational platform, Boys & Girls Clubs also announced they will be employing multiple part-time certified Math and ELA Teachers/Tutors for the 2021-2022 school year at each of their six club locations. Teachers/Tutors will be responsible for the daily academic tutoring of students and utilizing the IXL platform as a trusted resource. Teachers/Tutors will receive an hourly compensation between $20 and $30 per hour, depending upon levels of certification and experience, and work between 12 and 15 hours per week, Monday thru Thursday.

Phillip Bryant, president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia, said “We are excited to be able to offer these enhanced academic services with the implementation of IXL and the hiring of certified teachers and Tutors in support of our club members for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. The past sixteen months have been extremely difficult for many children and families we serve, especially those families with school-age children who have been dealing with significant academic challenges and learning loss. We are fortunate to be able to provide these enhanced levels of academic support to children and families in need, and we will continue to do our part to be a viable and trusted extension to the school day,” said Bryant.

Bryant said the funding to provide the enhanced academic services are being provided through Georgia Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs, by way of the Georgia Governor’s Office of Emergency Education Relief Fund (GEERF).
