Plant Scherer Employees Volunteer their Time with The Salvation Army, Rebuilding Macon this Month

Wednesday, May 26th, 2021

Georgia Power employees are making a difference in communities across the state this May as all operating, utility and gas companies in the Southern Company system participate in the “Energy to Serve” volunteer campaign.

Recently, Georgia Power employees from Plant Scherer in Monroe County spent two Saturdays in a row serving their local communities in the Macon, Forsyth, and Juliette area.

Employee volunteers spent their personal time at the local Salvation Army shelter trimming hedges and removing old bushes around the facility. Last weekend, the Citizens chapter helped at “Rebuilding Macon” where they installed molding around the porch and shudders and provided a fresh coat of paint to a home in the community.

With more than 40 chapters statewide, Citizens of Georgia Power - the employee volunteer arm of the company – gives back to their local communities through in-person and virtual volunteer projects, fundraisers, and donations. In 2020, Citizens’ members logged more than 55,000 hours of service equal to $1.5 million.
