Macon-Bibb to Celebrate Completion of 30 in 30 Campaign, Start of Major Improvements to Linwood Cemetery Entrance
Tuesday, May 18th, 2021
On Wednesday, May 19, at 9:00 a.m., Macon-Bibb County will mark two milestones in the attack on blight and community beautification effort
Three houses on Pursley Street (183, 195, and 201 Pursley Street) will be demolished, which will be the 29th, 30th, and 31st houses to be demolished as part of Mayor Lester Miller’s 30 in 30 Campaign. It will also mark the beginning of a major project to clean up and improve the entrance to Historic Linwood Cemetery, a project that is a partnership between the County, the Macon Cemetery Preservation Corporation, and the Macon Water Authority.
“This will be a great day for Macon-Bibb County and the Historic Pleasant Hill Neighborhood. We are delivering on our promise of aggressively removing blight from our neighborhoods, and we are working to improve one of our more historic community sites,” says Mayor Miller. “By working together with our partners, we are making huge strides in improving our neighborhoods for the future, and I hope to see more people visit Linwood Cemetery to learn about our past.”
“The blight removal, construction of the Pursley Streetscape, and connection to the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail will open up more tourism, funding, and partnerships for Historic Linwood Cemetery," says Macon Cemetery Preservation Corporation President Yolanda Latimore.
