Cox Employees Award Grant to Macon School

Friday, May 28th, 2021

Cox employees in Middle Georgia have awarded a $2,500 grant to L.H. Williams Elementary School, through a Cox Charities Innovation in Education Grant. The school will use the funds for their “Reading Rocks with Mentors” program which provides struggling students with the mentoring necessary to become self-confident strong readers. The mentors themselves are also Bibb County students.  They attend a virtual reading boot camp workshop where they learn how best to help their mentees improve reading skills.  After receiving their mentor badge and certificate, students are ready to serve their school as well as their community.

“This school year has been a very challenging year for administrators, teachers and students,” said Bonnie Lopez-Crowe, vice president of Cox’s Middle Georgia Market. “We salute them for everything they’ve overcome, and this is just a small way to say, ‘thank you.’ Our Middle Georgia employees funded these grants out of their own paychecks to ensure area students have the tools and supplies they need for fun and innovative programs in the classroom.”

The Cox Charities Innovation in Education grant program provides employee funded grants of up to $2,500 for classroom programs and curriculum that encourage and promote students’ ingenuity and imagination. Earlier this year, schools were invited to submit applications for funding.

In addition to the Innovation in Education grants, Cox Charities offers Community Investment grants to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. This grant application will open in August 2021. For more information about Cox Charities, visitwww.CoxCharitiesSER.org.
