Macon Volunteer Clinic is proud to announce that Carl Lane, M.D., retired cardiothoracic surgeon who has volunteered at MVC since 2011, received the 2021 Hidden Hero Award from the Rotary Club of Downtown Macon at its monthly meeting today.

“Dr. Lane is an inspiration to our patients, medical students and MVC staff,” said Nancy White, Executive Director of Macon Volunteer Clinic.  “Even after the COVID-19 shutdown last Spring, he was one of the first physicians to return to see patients in our Clinic.”

A graduate of Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Lane retired after 46 years of cardiothoracic surgery practice and since 2011, has been active at Macon Volunteer Clinic.  He sees patients and mentors medical students and residents each Wednesday and Thursday morning at the Rogers Avenue location.  In just the last two years, he has devoted over 500 hours serving patients there, many of whom suffer from chronic diseases like hypertension and diabetes.

Macon Volunteer Clinic was established in 2003 through generous donors and volunteers to provide high-quality primary health and dental care and medications at no cost to working, uninsured Bibb County adults.  In 2020, MVC provided $2,178,439.56 in non-narcotic prescription medication assistance, had 5,034 patient encounters, 265 dental procedures, and 356 cancer screenings.  MVC is 100% philanthropically funded.
