The storytelling theme, “Lighting Darkness” explores stories that find light, beauty, meaning, and understanding in dark, difficult times. Light and darkness intrigue us. Literature, art, science and architecture all reflect this fascination with both light and darkness in a literal and figurative sense. This natural phenomenon challenges our understanding. Countless books, songs and paintings have explored them. With open hearts, share the human experience of finding light in darkness “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that. “ Martin Luther King, Jr. Storytellers are as follows:
Harriett Davis is a regular on the storytelling stage. When she’s not working on a new story or polishing one she’s already told, she is a Bread Warrior, a ministry of Flagg Chapel Baptist Church. She is also passionate about the Chard Wray Food Pantry, housed on the Central State Hospital campus.
Bill Boling. is founder of the Atlanta publishing company Fall Line Press. As publisher, he works with award-winning writers, artists, photojournalists and leaders in the arts. He is also an artist and photographer whose work is included in many private and public collections.
Khadijah Trimelle Akbar is owner and operator of Khadijah’s Healthy Hair Boutique Salon. She started her hair care career at twelve. Opening her salon during the height of the worldwide pandemic, she overcame many obstacles to realize her dream. Hair care is her ministry, not just her business.
Alice Friman is an award-winning poet. She started writing poetry seriously in her forties and gained a reputation not only for her work and dynamic readings, but also as one of the founders of the Indiana Writers’ Center. She has taught at a number of universities and poet-in-residence at Georgia College & State University
