Second Phase of Lake Tobesofkee Improvements Beginning
Thursday, March 25th, 2021
The second phase of major improvements at Lake Tobesofkee have begun, and Macon-Bibb Count is celebrating with a Groundbreaking Ceremony on Wednesday, March 24 at 10:00 a.m. The event will be held at Sandy Beach Park(6880 Moseley Dixon Road) at the site of the new pickleball courts.
This phase of improvements includes four new pickleball courts, enclosing the pavilion at Sandy Beach Park, renovating the pavilion at Claystone Park, renovating bathrooms at Claystone Park, and tearing down and replacing three smaller pavilions at Sandy Beach Park. This phase of the improvements has been allocated $1,134,000 in funding from the voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
“Improving two of our larger pavilions and rebuilding several more, while adding courts for the growing sport of pickleball, will bring more people to Lake Tobo and show them all there is to do out here,” says Mayor Lester Miller. “Macon-Bibb is a great place for outdoor recreation, and we have to invest in making sure we have the best facilities.”
“There is so much to do for people and families at Lake Tobesofkee, and it’s great to see the community’s investment in making what’s here better and making more things available,” says Donald Bracewell, Lake Tobesofkee Director. “We can’t wait to host pickleball tournaments and have groups use the new pavilions!”
This Groundbreaking follows the official opening of the first phase of improvements on DATE. At that time, the community celebrated new guardhouses at all three parks (Claystone, Arrowhead, and Sandy Beach), the new ranger station in Claystone Park (to replace the trailers that used to be the offices), and two restroom facilities in Claystone and Sandy Beach Parks. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, this event will only be open to the media, elected officials, invited guests, and support staff. It will be broadcast live for the public at www.facebook.com/maconbibbcounty.
