Middle Georgia Regional Library Receives Chromebooks for Grab and Go Program
Friday, March 26th, 2021
Middle Georgia Regional Library received 24 Chromebooks that are available to check out at six branches. The laptops will be distributed to branches within the system that are in rural areas or lack sufficient internet access.
This was made possible through Georgia Public Library Service after they received a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the CARES Act. GPLS used $124,000 of grant funds to purchase 450 Chromebooks, which were distributed to libraries throughout the state. The laptops are a great resource for anyone who is in need of computer access for work, school, or telemedicine appointments.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we reduced the number of computers at branches to maintain proper social distancing which created a longer wait for patrons seeking computer access. The Chromebooks were obtained to support this immediate need and will serve as a necessity after social distancing has passed. We are committed to providing the tools to make sure that none of our community members are left behind,” said Jennifer Lautzenheiser, director of Middle Georgia Regional Library.
MGRL staff worked on getting these laptops equipped with all the programs needed to assist families with their technology needs. The Chromebooks should remain on library grounds and within range of the library’s WiFi.
Patrons must have a library card in good standing, fill out an agreement at the branch, and present a valid picture ID. The Chromebooks are available to checkout at Bloomfield Library, Riverside Library, Shurling Library, Crawford County Public Library, Marshallville Public Library, and Oglethorpe Public Library.
