Bike Walk Macon's Shamrock 'n' Ride Fundraiser Returns

Tuesday, March 9th, 2021

Macon’s quirkiest bicycling and walking event returns Saturday, March 13th, 2021. Participants will grab their gaudiest green gear to compete in Bike Walk Macon’s third annual Shamrock ‘n’ Ride Scavenger Hunt. This family-friendly event is a fundraiser to support the nonprofit’s mission to make bicycling and walking a safe and convenient option for transportation and recreation for everyone in Macon-Bibb County.

WHAT IS IT? Participants bring their bicycles or walking shoes to compete in a 2.5-hour scavenger hunt within a 5-mile radius of downtown Macon, searching for objects, tackling feats of strength and stupidity, and learning about both iconic and obscure parts in Macon with a team. Teams will design their own route and ride (or walk) together at their chosen pace to find more than 50 destinations, activities, and challenges. This year’s challenge will kick off at Fall Line Brewing Co. (567 Plum St.) at 9:30 am. The scavenger hunt will take place from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm and end back at Fall Line Brewing Co. for an outdoor, socially-distanced pizza party and awards ceremony.

HOW TO REGISTER: Participants can register online as a bicycling team of 2 or 3-4 people, or a walking team of 2-4 people. The online registration fee is $35 for riders ages 15+ and $25 for riders ages 14 and under. Children 7 and under are free.  Discounts are given to participants that sign up as a team ($10-$40).

To purchase tickets, visit www.bikewalkmacon.com/shamrocknride. Registration will increase by $5 on Friday, March 12th and will be limited to the first 100 people, so act fast.

WHAT IS INCLUDED? Each registration includes an entry ticket to the scavenger hunt, Shamrock ‘n’ Ride t-shirt, Fall Line Brewing Co. gym bag filled with swag from local businesses, and an entry pass to the pizza party and awards ceremony following the competition. Prize packages for 1st Place, 2nd Place, and Best Dressed teams will be awarded.

To promote safety, masks, social distancing, and a temperature check will be required to participate. “This year’s event will look different from previous years, but we’re thrilled we can still offer a fun opportunity for Maconites to safely spend time outdoors and explore our beautiful city and it’s local businesses,” says Bike Walk Macon executive director, Rachel Umana.
