Macon Arts Alliance Announces 2020 Cultural Award Recipients

Tuesday, February 16th, 2021

The annual Macon Arts Alliance Cultural Awards recognize individuals, organizations, and businesses who have made significant contributions to the cultural life of Central Georgia through their work or philanthropic efforts.  This year’s recipients include Bike Walk Macon, Scott Mitchell, Storytellers Macon, and Stratford Academy.

Recognizing the unique challenges of 2020, Macon Arts Alliance is also honoring people, projects and events that were implemented in response to either the global COVID-19 pandemic or that promoted racial equity.

“This year the arts have played a significant role in getting us through the COVID-19 pandemic and in amplifying the need for racial equity across the country”, said Julie Wilkerson, Executive Director of Macon Arts Alliance. “We want to recognize those who responded to the challenges of 2020 with creative and innovative projects or events.”

Recipients of the Macon Arts Alliance 2020 COVID awards are the Grand Opera House for the Fire Escape Series, the Jazz Association of Macon for Play it Forward, Micah Goguen for Frontline Faces, Newtown Macon for the Pop-up on Poplar Music Series and Bright City, and Triangle Arts for the Second Friday Drive Thru Gallery series.

Recipients of the Macon Arts Alliance 2020 Racial Equity awards are Kevin ‘Scene’ Lewis for the #BlockTheHate mural, and Nancy Cleveland and Rachelle Wilson for the Macon Freedom for All Solidarity Walk.
