United Way of Central Georgia team members and volunteers are excited to recognize and celebrate 11 local children with their Parents as Teachers graduation on January 28th at 4 pm outside the Peyton Anderson Community Services Center. These 11 children have reached development milestones and proven their readiness for kindergarten as part of United Way of Central Georgia’s evidenced-based model for parent education, Parents as Teachers. The parents enrolled in Parents as Teachers come from lower-income, high poverty backgrounds. Many of those parents haven’t experienced graduations themselves, but are driven to provide a better life for their children. It is United Way’s hope that this graduation on January 28th is the first of many graduation milestones for these 11 children.
“As these children and parents go through the Parents as Teachers program, they’ve grown stronger as individuals and as a family. That strength better equips them for their future and strengthens our community as a whole,” said Daniel Charles, Parents as Teachers Coordinator. “Graduating from Parents as Teachers is a BIG DEAL and we want to celebrate the graduate students as they prepare for kindergarten and recognize their parents as they’ve hit milestones of their own as their child’s first teacher.”
The media is invited to attend the 4 pm graduation outside the Peyton Anderson Community Services Center at 277 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Macon for the drive-thru graduation.
