Navicent Health Foundation, through its Healthcare Employees Achieving Tomorrow (HEAT) program, has approved a $4,100 grant to Beverly Knight Olson Children’s Hospital, Navicent Health (BKO) for the Bibb County School District’s School House Nurse Program. Through the School House Nurse Program, BKO provides pediatric nurses and medical supplies to health clinics at 35 schools and programs in the Bibb County School District.

Grant funds will be used to purchase three manuals for School House Nurses – School Nurse Resource Manual, 10th Edition; Legal Resources for School Health Services; and Individualized Healthcare Plans. The School Nurse Resource Manual provides treatment algorithms for over 100 health issues commonly seen in the school nurse clinical setting, while Legal Resources for School Health Services provides guidance to school nurses to ensure they remain in adherence with state and federal laws while delivering care in the school setting. Individualized Healthcare Plans for the School Nurse will assist School House Nurses as they develop tailored healthcare plans for each student they treat in clinic.

“The Bibb County School District appreciates the support of Navicent Health in keeping our students and staff as healthy as possible. These resource manuals will assist our nurses as they implement evidence-based approaches in school clinics each day,” said Jamie Cassady, Assistant Superintendent of Student Affairs.

Navicent Health and the Bibb County School District have partnered since 1994 to provide pediatric care for students in Bibb County schools.

“We’ve had a wonderful partnership with the Bibb County School District, and our School House Nurses enjoy the relationships they build with students as they work to address their health needs. Thanks to the generosity of Navicent Health Foundation, we can continue to improve the care we provide through evidence-based, proven treatments,” said Rebecca Cogburn, RN, Director of the School House Nurse Program.

The HEAT program is made possible by Navicent Health teammates, who choose to donate a portion of their paychecks to support healthcare initiatives in central Georgia.
