Monday, January 25th, 2021

Macon-Bibb County Government, United Way of Central Georgia, and other organizations throughout the community will gather (socially-distant) Monday, January 25that 10 am at Macon-Bibb County government Chambers to announce and celebrate two very generous donations to the Brookdale Warming Center from the Navicent Foundation and Allstate Electric totaling $10k. The funds will go towards continuing the services offered by the Brookdale Warming Center: providing a safe and warm place to stay for those in need, three meals a day provided by the Salvation Army, and warm showers.  To date (including these donations from Navicent Foundation and Allstate Electric), nearly $15,000 has been given to support the Brookdale Warming Center.

“The response to helping people and families at the Brookdale Warming Center shows the state and country what I already know about our community: that we care about each other and will come forward immediately,” says Mayor Lester Miller. “These donations will go a long way to support the Center with staff and additional resources to meet people’s individual needs.”

“When the pandemic hit, United Way and the Community Foundation partnered to create our Central Georgia COVID 19 Response and Recovery Fund”, said George McCanless, President & CEO of United Way of Central Georgia. “The purpose of the fund was to help local people affected by consequences of COVID-19, and I can think of no better support than helping struggling individuals and families to find a warm, safe place to spend the night. I applaud Mayor Miller for springing into action to get this initiative started, and to the many partners that have come together to make it happen.”

The media is invited and encouraged to attend to celebrate these donations that will so greatly help our community during this time of need. Anyone wishing to donate to the Brookdale Warming Center can donate at www.unitedwaycg.org/covid19donate .
