Grand Opera House Screening "Hidden History" Series
Thursday, November 5th, 2020
WHO: Historic Macon Foundation, Macon Pride, Grand Opera House
WHAT: Public screening of "Hidden History"
WHEN: Thursday, Nov. 12. Doors open at 5:30; screening starts at 6
WHERE: Grand Opera House, 651 Mulberry St.
BACKGROUND: Once a week during October, Historic Macon unveiled a new video from community barrier breakers during LGBTQ History Month.
Now, the series, “Hidden History,” will be shown at the Grand Opera House in its entirety — one video — followed by a short question-and-answer session with filmmakers on how the series came together.
The free screening starts at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12. Doors open at 5:30.
The video will feature one-on-one interviews with five people, who share their stories as well as observations about the Macon LGBTQ community’s history, culture and activism.
The interviewees, all of whom have been invited to the screening as guests of honor, are: Carey Pickard; Yvonne Miller; DeMarcus Beckham; Jim Crisp; and Tangerine Summers. Elliot James, a writer, journalist and performing artist, interviewed each participant. Rachelle Wilson directed the project, which runs about two hours.
Seating for the special event will provide a safe distance between attendees. There will be temperature checks, and masks will be required.
The project was funded by a Downtown Challenge Grant from the Community Foundation of Central Georgia. Macon Pride and the Grand Opera House are co-hosts.
