Staff Report

Monday, October 5th, 2020

Macon Area Habitat for Humanity will host World Habitat Week 2020 through a series of events and announcements. Through a virtual home tour, a ReStore sale, and the Home Court Pickleball Tournament, the Macon community is invited to celebrate the work of Macon Area Habitat for Humanity. Over the last 34 years, MAHFH has partnered with families to create access safe, decent, and affordable housing here in Macon-Bibb County. The affiliate will also celebrate Habitat for Humanity's international work by providing information on the #CostofHome that all Americans should keep in mind during this critical election season.

“We invite Macon-Bibb County to join in celebrations around the world and reflect on the positive impact of homeownership on families, neighborhoods and the entire community,” said Ivey Hall, Executive Director of Macon Area Habitat for Humanity. “While so many continue to shelter in place, and children are learning from home due to the pandemic, we have all been reminded of the importance of a safe and stable place to call home. Now more than ever, we need to support opportunities for those in our community and around the world, to have an affordable place to live.”

Media are encouraged to share our virtual events and join us for interviews during the Home Court tournament on October 9-11 at the Tattnall Square Tennis and Pickleball Center.

Monday, October 5 - World Habitat Day
The United Nations established World Habitat Day in 1985 to spotlight the need for adequate shelter worldwide.  Every year Habitat for Humanity joins our partners around the world to rededicate ourselves to recognizing the fundamental right of everyone to adequate shelter. Habitat for Humanity asks everyone to join together as one global network in communicating that every one of us deserves the opportunity for a better future. A decent place to live can remove barriers to opportunity, health, and success that might have been part of a family’s life for years, and in many cases for generations.

The Macon Area Habitat for Humanity ReStore will host a tool sale during Habitat Week, starting Tuesday and running through Saturday. The store is open Tuesday-Friday from 10-4, Saturday 9-3, and is located at 690 Holt Avenue. Proceeds from sales in the ReStore support MAHFH’s mission.
