Honoring Our Heroes on September 11th
Monday, September 14th, 2020
On Friday morning September 11, Macon-Bibb County held its annual event to remember the 2001 terrorist attacks and honor the first responders that protect our city and country on a daily basis. The Ceremony – sponsored by the Macon-Bibb Law Enforcement Foundation – was at Public Safety Memorial Park, near the intersection of Mulberry and Second streets in Downtown Macon-Bibb.
There was a Presentation of Colors by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and Macon-Bibb County Fire Department Honor Guard. Fire Chief Marvin Riggins, Sheriff David Davis, and Colonel Henderson Carswell laid roses at each part of the Memorial as a symbol that Macon-Bibb will never forget the sacrifice made by individuals in service to their community. Then they, along with Mayor Robert Reichert, placed a wreath in front of the memorial to remember those who lost their lives on 9/11/01. Bagpiper Don Bray ended the service by playing “Amazing Grace.”
“Each year, we mark the anniversary of these tragic events by honoring the men and women who lost their lives that day, as well as gave their lives to protect our community, as well as remember and honor the people who lost their lives during and after the attacks on 9/11,” says Warren Selby. “We will never forget.” Click the links below to watch the ceremony and to see photos from it.
