Macon-Bibb County Continuing PPE Distribution Today

Staff Report

Monday, August 17th, 2020

The Recreation Department and Emergency Management Agency will continue giving free trifold surgical face masks and gloves on Monday, August 17. In the first week of distribution, 37,977 masks and 24,180 gloves were given to people. People can visit any of the below recreation centers Monday through Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. (or until supplies run out), and each person will be provided up to 10 masks and five pairs of gloves.

“We knew there was a need in our community for people to get masks, but we couldn’t foresee how quickly they would be distributed,” says Recreation Department Director Robert Walker. “To be able to support people in such a huge way during these unprecedented and challenging times is a great feeling, and we’re glad we can keep going Tuesday.”

“We all need to do our part to protect Middle Georgia, and that includes wearing a mask when around people,” says EMA Director Spencer Hawkins. “We are joining efforts by local organizations like the Health Department and United Way to make as many people as possible in Macon-Bibb have the supplies they need to stay safe…and keep others safe.”
