Macon Baby Wins $5,529 College Savings Contribution as Winner of Statewide Path2College Newborn Sweepstakes
Friday, August 28th, 2020
Today, Rylee Myers was awarded $5,529 for her college savings as the winner of the 2019 Path2College Newborn Sweepstakes. Myers’ grandmother, Andrea Fuller, entered her in the sweepstakes.
“I really wanted Rylee to have a head start on her future. Winning means my granddaughter has a chance to start building for her college career if that's what she decides to do,” said Fuller. “Saving is very important to me. I attended a four-year university myself, and I know even with student loans and scholarships, college is very expensive. In 17 years with the cost of tuition, it will definitely be needed.”
Coliseum Medical Centers, the hospital where Myers was born, also received a prize of $1,529.
Stephen J. Daugherty, Chief Executive Officer of Coliseum Health System, said, “The mission of Coliseum Medical Centers is centered around our commitment to the care and improvement of the lives of patients like Rylee. We recognize a similar mission in the Path2College 529 Plan as they help Georgians improve their lives by planning for future education expenses. We are excited to see that this sweepstakes will jumpstart baby Rylee’s path towards higher education! The donation that we received on behalf of this sweepstakes will go toward our organization’s Hope Fund, a charity that supports employees who are affected by financial hardships. The HCA Hope Fund allows us to continue to do what we do best – take care of others!”
More than 2,100 parents and grandparents entered the Path2College 529 Plan Newborn Sweepstakes during 2019.
“We are excited to award Rylee with this contribution to her college savings to will help her achieve her dreams. While she was the only winner of this sweepstakes, our ultimate goal is to inspire the more than 2,100 families who entered the sweepstakes, along with all of the other families with newborns, to start thinking about their saving options and create a financial plan for their children and grandchildren,” said Lynne Riley, president of the Georgia Student Finance Commission which partners with the Office of the State Treasurer to administer the Path2College 529 Plan for the state of Georgia.
